IT used in the Healthcare field
Based on my current understanding of Information Technology
and my experience in learning about the medical field, I have more knowledge of
the medical field than I do Information Technology for the moment. However, I
am excited to learn more and better myself in knowledge of Technology. Healthcare
uses Technology for many things and here is a list of some.
- Ø Healthcare
records
- Ø Imaging such as x-rays, CT scan, and MRIs
- Ø Remote
doctor appointments
- Ø Patient
portals to get messages from and to your doctors.
- Ø Labs which
can be ordered by your doctors.
- Ø Medical
software uses technology in helping patients, from the machines used in doing stress
tests to the monitors they need in reading vitals and the amazing technology used
in ultrasound machines.
- Ø Billing
and scheduling
- Ø Prescriptions
rather than being handwritten can be done electronically and sent over faster.
- Ø Patient
monitoring tools for home (glucose meters, blood pressure cuffs)
Technology
has improved the way healthcare works, which provides everyone with faster,
more proficient healthcare. As well as allowing us the chance to make
appointments from home to avoid getting others sick or avoid getting sick
easier. And it helps us save gas as well as time and prevents us from sitting for
long periods in waiting rooms.
It is
very important in healthcare professions to be computer literate as the whole
career field is widely using Information Technology to better their outcomes.
This helps proficiently keep records of each patient and be able to keep all
new information documented to better serve them on future visits. This also allows
doctors from different parts of the office to see what other doctors have
provided as they can also pull up the up-to-date records and show all allergies
and procedures as well as medication lists. In ten years, I predict more life
saving machines will likely be created or at least upgraded.
